Is drinking elderflower cordial healthy? ›

Elderflower is POSSIBLY SAFE for most people when used short-term as medicine, or in small amounts as part of a combination product containing elderflower, sorrel, gentian root, verbena, and cowslip flower (SinuComp, Sinupret). However, the elderflowers' natural yeasts will no longer function so you'll have to add brewing yeast where relevant. Uses for dried elderflowers include wines, fizzes, teas and cordials.

Can you use elderflower cordial instead of liquor? ›

I use it to sweeten and flavor iced tea and sparkling water, or in place of simple syrup or sugar in co*cktails like the Daiquiri, Tom Collins, or Cucumber Gimlet. Why did my elderflower cordial explode? ›

Exploding bottles

Essentially elderflower champagne is still fermenting. The bubbles are formed when the yeast “eats” the sugar forming alcohol and carbon dioxide. This gas can build up in the bottle and as it has nowhere to go the build-up of pressure can cause an explosion.

Why does my elderflower cordial taste bitter? ›

Where I had gone wrong, was that I hadn't removed enough of the stalk and if you leave this in, you get this horrible, bitter taste, which ruins the cordial. To make the cordial, you'll need to leave it to infuse overnight and the most time-consuming part is in the prep, but it is really simple to do.
